We speak to David’s son Ben Blackmore as we look back on (and forward to) our continuing partnership.

What does the Blackmore Wagyu and Victor Churchill partnership mean to you?

It has been an absolute privilege for us to showcase our Wagyu in Victor Churchill for the past 10 years! It has been incredible partnership and we have enjoyed watching this incredible store grow and develop into the greatest butcher shop in the world.  

Tell us about the first time you met Anthony.

Honestly it was so long ago I am not sure I remember! Before I worked for the family business I worked for Itoham, the Japanese company that owned Rockdale Beef. It was 2005 when I started selling Rockdale Beef to Vic, then I joined the family business in 2009 and continued to grow the relationship with Anthony, Vic and Anita. Our two families have worked extremely closely for almost 20 years and Vic’s Meat have been our exclusive Australian distributor for the entire journey.  

What has been your favourite memory?

Before Victor Churchill opened, Anthony and Vic were travelling far and wide to research the best way to present meat all over the world. Vic and Stephanie travelled to Japan with me to visit the Tokyo meat market and the famous Takeda Farms. Incredible memories that I will cherish forever.

What’s your favourite thing about Victor Churchill?

For me it’s all of the small details. As soon as you open the door with the brass sausage handle you know that you are entering a temple of meat. The staff welcoming you into the store, the butchers working at the blocks on display, and the meat immaculately presented in the brass cabinets makes you realise you are not just entering a butcher shop - you are entering into a truly special experience.  

What’s next? Where do you see the partnership in the future?

We look forward to continuing the close relationship with Victor Churchill and the Puharich family for the next 10 years and beyond.
